The history of the Adirondack chair begins in the Town of Westport, NY with the inventor of the Westport chair - Massachusetts native Thomas Lee. Lee's family owned a house in Westport, and he spent many of his summers there around the early 20th century.

What is not apparent in any of these shots is long grain, thick strips of teak, glued and screwed to the bottom of all ground contact pieces of the chair. Cedar is quite poor for scraping or dropping damage, and sucks up water like a camel to water, but is otherwise fine. i.e. warm and light and soft. The seats are adequately slanted at the back, all the good qualities of a true Adirondack chair design. And aside from getting plans to make these seats, you also get a free plan to make the table between the two seats. You will not just be making seats but a complete seating section!
I am most certainly not a big enthusiast of art but I cannot help myself but admire these lovely chairs. It is good that you decided to take a picture with one of them, else I might mistake them for a miniature which usually comes in dollhouses, don’t you think?

Fit the supports to the braces, as shown in the diagram. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes and insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock them together tightly. Make sure the corners are square.
I decided to leave the cypress unfinished and allow the elements to eventually turn the light brown natural color to a silver gray. I figure by the time that happens, the color will complement what I expect my hair color to be in another 10 years. PW

As with all furniture, Adirondack chairs do have a weight capacity on them. This capacity will vary depending on which model you go with. However, finding out that information can be harder then you think, with not every company being upfront about it. For me, this usually means they have an industry-standard weight capacity of between 200 and 220 pounds.
