Before a final sanding, I grabbed some fall-off cypress and cut about 60 plugs for filling the holes left from countersinking the screws. I used a narrow chisel to pop the plugs loose from the board. I glued the plugs in the holes, leaving them proud. A flexible, fine-tooth saw easily removed the excess plug material.

Gene, This chair is killer! I am just seeing this for the first time. When I first saw the post I thought wow what a great “modern” take on a classic. Then when I read on that this chair actually predates the Adirondack chair I thought even better! The lines on this chair are so simple, minimal and strong from any angle that it make the Adirondack chair seem almost ornate. It kind of reminds me of another famous chair Gerrit Rietveld’s Red, Blue & Chair from 1923.
But this isn’t a good thing to mention of the best big and tall Adirondack chairs. You will definitely not like the fact that they won’t carry you safely.

In 2007, an opportunity presented itself to open a location in Marietta, Georgia. Two employees from the Whitehall and Hamburg locations were transferred there to establish our 3rd location. Green Acres of Marietta has now grown considerably, and is firmly established.
“I really think it was a marketing thing,” says Laura Rice, currently chief curator of the Adirondack Experience museum, which has both cure chairs and Westport chairs in its collection. “There were a lot of stores selling (cure furniture); that may have been his [Bunnell’s] intent.” She adds, however, that she’s never seen a chair with Bunnell’s modifications, and noted that the low profile of the Westport chair itself is not particularly suitable for someone in a weakened condition.
It is normal and expected to opt for wood readily available within your locality. However, it may not necessarily be ideal for Adirondack chairs.
Paying attention to the maintenance needs of wood before selecting it for your Adirondack chair is key.
Adirondack chairs put you in a comfortable position to hold children or pets on your lap. This outdoor chair is highly comfortable to sit and relax in – but it may not be for you if you have back or leg problems as it may be hard to comfortably lower yourself that close to the ground.
