If you’d wish to try out a fan-back style, the palm coast chair is here. The seat and back of this chair are contoured and the arms have a curved shape to boost your comfort.
For your Bigfoot body, the minimum considerations should be 16 inches seat height, 25 inches seat width and a backrest of 36-40 inches long. Very generous measurements here indeed, right? .
This is a very personal question that I can’t really answer for you since we’re all different. There will be certain body shapes and heights that will make getting in and out of these chairs difficult. Whether you have that shape or size I can’t really answer.
Essentially, this chair is built from the ground up so the first pieces required are the two side members that slope back from the front, vertical legs. Use the pattern to trace their shape on the stock, then cut them out using the band saw. Abram suggested we nail the two sides together at the ends in the waste material and stack cut them both to save some time. Then we drum-sanded the sawn edges to smooth the surface.
Not just for anything but because they are bang useful when used in the outdoorsy environments. In my opinion, no other chair beats this one.
Overall this is a great chair it works well for taller people and maintains its comfort while doing so. It’s a hard chair to pass up if you’re a taller person who struggles to find a suitable chair for your height.
Gene, This chair is killer! I am just seeing this for the first time. When I first saw the post I thought wow what a great “modern” take on a classic. Then when I read on that this chair actually predates the Adirondack chair I thought even better! The lines on this chair are so simple, minimal and strong from any angle that it make the Adirondack chair seem almost ornate. It kind of reminds me of another famous chair Gerrit Rietveld’s Red, Blue & Chair from 1923.
These beach chairs are ready for summer action! One chair has the classic Adirondack charm with the large six panel back and swooping seat and one chair have an extended feet design. These chairs were made with tough, treated lumber made to withstand the rigors of cold salty air.

Whether your favorite spot is the beach, a campsite or your own back yard a comfortable chair is essential. This lounger has an extra wide back which allows space for pillows or cushions, extra wide arms to place drinks and snacks on, and a slanted seat & backrest that encourage reclining (slightly) in comfort. These colorful chairs boast a faux wood look, vertical lattice back and they’re UV protected to help retain their vibrant color.
Drill 1⁄4″ holes through the side members and front leg to accept stainless steel carriage bolts. Use a clamp to hold the parts in position; the leg should be flush to the side’s front edge and 113⁄4″ up from the leg bottom to the bottom edge of the front crosspiece.
The swing must be made of light but durable materials so wood pallets are the best thing. And of course, waterproofing or weatherproofing is very important because this will remain outdoors exposed to the elements.
So bad, right?! To get just a bit more use out of them I decided to paint them last Spring. Painting these wobbly old chairs gave them another season. This is what they looked like after paint: (you can find that project here: Painting Adirondack Chairs)
Next, install the outer back slats. Position the bottom of the slat 1″ from the inside of the side piece. Secure it, then position the upper portion so that it touches the inside edge of the arm. Fasten it. Once both outside pieces are in place, the remaining two intermediate slats are merely positioned with equal spaces between their adjoining slats.
