Often times the most difficult thing about getting a new chair is having to assemble it which is usually made more difficult by poor instructions. This isn’t the case with this chair as the assembly is very minimal and doesn’t take long to set up at all so more time to relax. There is no easy answer to why Adirondack chairs are so expensive. A lot goes into the design of these chairs which I believe is a big part of the reason that do seem to cost more than others. Their design isn’t a simple basic design like most others, so their manufacturing process is more difficult.
Essentially, this chair is built from the ground up so the first pieces required are the two side members that slope back from the front, vertical legs. Use the pattern to trace their shape on the stock, then cut them out using the band saw. Abram suggested we nail the two sides together at the ends in the waste material and stack cut them both to save some time. Then we drum-sanded the sawn edges to smooth the surface.
