Really interesting to read the story of this legend of a chair, and I also saw the sad end of it made of plastic… .
Traditional Adirondack chairs were made from one long plank of wood cut into eleven pieces and assembled in a certain way to create a comfortable chair for an outdoor space. The chair back was tilted backward for comfort, and the armrests were quite wide. The early models were very simple structures without a lot of aesthetic flare, though more modern designs feature more elaborate cuts to create a look that is more visually appealing. Modern chairs are also larger than the original models for comfort. Adirondack chair kits mostly feature the more modern styles, though some traditional kits may be available.
This furniture lives outdoors, so there’s no moving it. Leave your outdoor furniture on the deck, on the lawn or around the pool so you can sit outside on any day to enjoy the sunshine. Heavy enough so it won’t blow away!
As for the size of the chair, it’s slightly smaller then the King Size Highwood brand. Which is probably to be expected having a smaller weight capacity of 300 pounds. The seat itself is just under 21″ wide and sits 14 inches from the ground. As for the back of the chair it’s also just shorter at 36.9 inches in height. Assembly is somewhat easier, but do note: Don’t over tighten the screws or you could damage the ends,or even worse crack the slat. Just go gently if using a drill.
Beautiful chair and I love the back ground information and the new web site to browse.

Just make sure it is not too soft. Go for a species that is fairly strong, stable, and durable. You may also want to consider treating your wood for resistance to UV, water, weather, rot, and bugs.
This is a power tool challenge project where a few of my fellow bloggers and myself get together and create a project based on one theme. This months theme is Spring. We are building Adirondack chairs to welcome the warm weather of Spring. Each project must be created using at least one power tool. Make sure to check out these other projects. Links to each project are below the image.

This bright yellow Adirondack chair is quite a stunner. Just look at its tall and wide backrest with yellow planks. The seats are yellow, with a touch of red at the feet. The armrests are large and extend to the back.
