How does fax to email work?
Most of you have been offered a FREE fax to email account by now.
But why is it free? How can it be free? Why would anybody offer a free service? There must be a catch somewhere?
How it works
You register for a free fax number at a fax web site like http://www.faxsystem.co.za/
You get a free fax number which starts with 0866
People can send you a fax and you receive the fax as an attachment to the email you specified when you signed up. This is wonderful as you can save on ink and paper, you do not need an extra Telkom line for your fax and your fax number can never be ingaged. You can also receibe your faxes anywhere in the world where you have access to your emails.
There are many benefits to the receiver.
But the question remain, why is it free.
It is simple. The free number you receive is what we call a “premium rated” number. This means that it would cost more to phone that number than a normal Telkom number. The company who owns the fax to email system (of which Vodacom is one of the biggest) makes a profit each time somebody sends a fax to that number. They collect the difference between their premium rate and the standard Telkom rate.
They also have agents promoting these free fax numbers. (like http://www.faxsystem.co.za/ ) who gets a very small portion of this revenue. They get paid per minute of faxes received. That is why there are so many fax to email web sites. But in the end there are only 3 or 4 main companies delivering the service with hundreds of agents promoting it.
Thus, you as receiver nether pay a cent for the faxes you receive. But the person who sends the fax will pay a little bit more than he would pay if he sent the fax to a normal land line number.
So it is absolutely save for the receiver. You can get your own free fax number and receiving faxes that way will cost you nothing.

Hi Tina
In my eBook at http://www.passive-income.co.za I do mention who the right people are to talk to. There is a smaller company who are owned by Vodacom. This company then uses marketers to promote the service and get a small fee on all faxes received.
Dear Peiter
I would like to market these services you mentioned Vodacom as one of the top 4 who are the others, when I contacted Vodacom they said that they do not use marketers did I perhaps chat to the wrong person
This must be the best kept seceret how to start your own fax to email business
